No point being nice to the enemy…

13th July 2355; 10AM,

Defensive operations have been initiated. Three Scorpions were dispatched to intercept Sergei’s army as soon as the first phase of our defensive strategy was planned. Me, along with few defence advisors namely Phil, Yamamoto and Jean are currently monitoring the situation in the newly formed defence headquarters. We needed a dedicated place for supervising and governing the activities of our forces and for developing battle time strategies. This issue was raised  when we were discussing the designs of the war machines and it was unanimously decided to  build one. We didn’t have much time in hand and thus, a building with full capacity and functionality was not possible. Keeping this in mind, a base was erected which basically was a large room containing a 10 feet high and 20 feet wide screen to observe the battlefield and a control panel to monitor the units. The whole structure was built in about twenty four hours using the construction class 3D printers.

About ten officers manned the control panel and another three operated at the screen. The control panel was to guide the combat units during assault. Even though all the machines were automated and also, the guidance system operated with enough precision and efficiency but there was a finite probability that manual intervention could produce a better or differently desired outcome than predicted by the computer. The officers in charge of the control panel were chosen based on their performances in simulated environments. This task was overseen by Philip, one of my close friends. Philip was primarily in charge of the sewage disposal system and general cleanliness of the city. He was so mechanical and precise that most people mistook him to be a synthetic human at first sight. Apart from being an efficient custodian for the city, Philip was a master strategist and that was a major reason for us to be close. We used to have adventures of our own when he was a young man. Those were some memorable days. It feels eerie sometimes to think that I witnessed my friends grow old and the oldest ones die. Now, it’s only me and Husky.

As per Felines’ previous data, Sergei was approaching the city with a legion of three hundred units comprising of about a hundred and fifty tripod dragoons including both gunners and rocket launchers, forty armoured assault vehicles, sixty battle tanks, twenty long range rockets launchers and thirty fast moving assault vehicles. I wondered how could he procure such an army at this time? We being the most technically advanced organisation didn’t have such an army until yesterday and he has more than double of what we have today. Maybe being technically advanced was the reason why we didn’t have such an army. Long ago, a technically advanced country named India faced such a situation and was overrun by barbarians who came from the deserts and ruled that country for about half a millennium. Those barbarians slowly brought the country to ruins by plundering and murdering the locals systematically. Almost all scientific developments were lost. The original Indians didn’t even stand a chance against these barbarians because they hadn’t planned for an invasion. We hadn’t either. It was by chance that I stumbled upon the knowledge about Sergei and had some time to prepare. Though, this prior information would not have meant anything if it wasn’t for our united effort and hardwork of centuries. Nothing would have been possible if few among us hadn’t possessed the vision for a new world. The fact was, Sergei had a massive army and we needed to defend ourselves. Finally, if everything failed then I would have had to deploy the city’s self destruct mechanism. This was something nobody knew about, a small nuclear device that I had planted below the central part of the city which was powerful enough to bring the city to ground. But that was the last resort and I intended to not reach that situation.

When we sat down to devise our defence strategy, my first concern was those long range rocket launchers. They had enough capacity to fire from beyond the range of our turrets. This led us to dispatch the Scorpions. The idea was to destroy as many rocket launchers possible till the Scorpions got destroyed. There was another objective that was going to be achieved along with destruction of rocket launchers, the information about their armaments. The next phase of action would be decided depending on the information we receive. Sergei messed with the wrong person. He has no idea how evil I can be. He doesn’t know how evil I can be. I’ll make a gruesome example out of him. No point being nice to the enemy.

To be continued…
