It all started with a walk on the beach

Standard

3rd June 2015,

It was a day just like any other in the summertime. Everything relevant to my life was going on at its usual pace. I had a peaceful job, a nice house by the beach in the city outskirts and no unwanted hassles. My personal life was completed by Tim, a German Shepherd who was my all-time friend. I was woken up by Tim’s relentless sniffing my face. I saw the clock, it was late in the morning. I didn’t worry about it as it was my day off. I got off my bed, gave Tim some dry food to calm him down and myself had some lightly toasted bread and omelettes with my favourite cup of black coffee while the morning news ran in the background.

Luckily, today was relatively cooler than other days, and hence a perfect day for an outing. I planned to take Tim, my German Shepherd out to the beach. He had been inside the house too long because of the heatwave. He needed some change of air too. I love taking care of him since he is all that is left of my family. I lost my parents at a young age and currently I was not looking for a relationship.

So, I decided to pack us a big lunch and went to the sea which was about a ten minute walk from my home. The beach was relatively empty, today being a weekday which promised us a peaceful environment.

We started playing catch, though with a camel bone. Everything was going fine until I threw the bone a bit too hard and it went deep inside the woods that grew on the other end of the beach. Tim was a bit scared of the thick growth of trees, he definitely wouldn’t have gone alone. He looked at me and barked, I knew I had to lead the way. I went into the woods and Tim followed me.

We were searching for the bone and while doing so reached a small clearing with a pond, the clarity of water was surprising. I peeked inside the pond to look for the bone. Instead of my friend’s plaything, I found something unusual, a leather bound diary. I fished the diary out, its cover was not leather but something similar with a shiny coating. The diary was like diaries from every aspect except one, the diary was not wet and I had just taken it out of water. It was quite large and I was very intrigued. I decided to take it home and read it. I was engrossed in my thoughts revolving around my recent acquisition, a sudden bark brought me back to the real world. I turned my head to and couldn’t see Tim anywhere but I knew it was his barking. Then, I heard some rustling among the leaves and Tim jumped out of a shrubbery, with a large grin and the bone in his mouth. I smiled at him and said, “Let’s go, it’s been a long day.” He followed me while wagging his tail.

To be continued…
